Awarded Gold for Excellence in Rural Heart Attack Care

MILLERSBURG, Ohio (July 2025) — Pomerene Hospital has received national recognition from the American Heart Association with the Get With The Guidelines® – Rural Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Gold Award, highlighting its commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to patients experiencing severe heart attacks.

The award is based on two years of data (January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2024) submitted through the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® quality improvement program, which supports hospitals in consistently implementing the latest research-based treatment guidelines. The ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) is among the most critical and time-sensitive types of heart attacks, requiring rapid and coordinated care to improve patient outcomes.

The Gold level designation is reserved for hospitals that demonstrate consistent excellence in meeting program benchmarks, including timely diagnosis, intervention, and post-care management for STEMI patients. Pomerene’s achievement places it among a select group of rural hospitals nationwide committed to bringing advanced cardiovascular care to their communities.

This recognition also brings national visibility to Pomerene Hospital through the American Heart Association’s broader celebration of awarded hospitals. Pomerene will be included in upcoming US News & World Report "Best Hospitals" print and digital editions and will be part of the AHA’s recognition at the 2026 International Stroke Conference.

The hospital's success reflects the strength of its clinical team, emergency response protocols, and commitment to improving patient outcomes in rural settings. With the nearest major heart centers often miles away, Pomerene's ability to deliver guideline-driven cardiac care locally plays a vital role in saving lives.
