    Pomerene Hospital Provides ZIKA Update

    19-Sep-2016

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), there are currently over 2,500 cases of Zika virus reported in the U.S. at this time. Zika virus is in all states but Alaska and Wyoming. Florida is the only state that currently has locally acquired cases from mosquitoes totaling 29. Of the others, 22 cases have been linked to sexual transmission of which seven have developed Guillian-Barre syndrome.

Zika is of greatest concern for pregnant women and women who may become pregnant while infected. This is because Zika can cause birth defects in babies born to women who are infected during pregnancy.

For everyone else, Zika rarely causes serious disease. Many people with Zika won’t have symptoms. When symptoms do appear, they are usually mild. The most common symptoms are fever, rash, joint pain and conjunctivitis (red eyes).

Key staff and physicians at Pomerene Hospital have been educated on the Zika virus, signs and symptoms, and treatment. Through collaborative efforts with the Ohio Department of Health, the hospital has identified the necessary lab specimens to obtain should a patient present to Pomerene with a suspected case of Zika. Staff has been informed on how to process these laboratory specimens and submit to the Ohio Department of Health.

All patients who present to Pomerene’s Emergency Department are screened for signs and symptoms of the Zika virus through our triage process. We are also screening for Zika on all pregnant woman in OB during our admission interview process. Any suspected cases of Zika will be reported to the Ohio Department of Health.

Patients with a confirmed case of Zika would not require isolation as the disease is only communicable through mosquito bite, or sexual transmission. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends standard precautions for patients with a Zika infection.

“We at Pomerene Hospital are aware of the extent of the Zika virus infection and are in close coordination with the Ohio State Health Department in regard to the spread of this virus. We are also monitoring the CDC recommendations,” stated Yasser Omran, M.D., Pomerene Hospital Medical Director and Internal Medicine physician.

“We encourage the public in general to be careful with mosquito bite exposures since they have the potential to cause serious infections such as encephalitis as well as Zika virus infections. Our infection control committee continues to update the medical staff of any reported cases and news pertinent to such infections.”

More information may be obtained by using the CDC’s Zika website at http://www.cdc.gov/zika/index.html.

Pomerene Hospital Receives 4-Star Rating from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

    16-Aug-2016

Pomerene Hospital is among 20% of hospitals nationwide to receive a 4-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

CMS unveiled its updated Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings in late July.

"When individuals and their families need to make important decisions about healthcare, they seek a reliable way to understand the best choice for themselves or their loved ones," CMS Center for Clinical Standards and Quality Director Kate Goodrich, MD, said regarding the data release.

"Today, we are updating the star ratings on the Hospital Compare website to help millions of patients and their families learn about the quality of hospitals, compare facilities in their area side-by-side, and ask important questions about care quality when visiting a hospital or other healthcare provider."

Goodrich said the new Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating methodology takes 64 existing quality measures already reported on the Hospital Compare website and summarizes them into a unified rating of one to five stars.

Quality measures that are considered include routine care the average individual receives, such as care received when being treated for a heart attacks and pneumonia, to quality measures that focus on hospital-acquired infections, such as catheter associated urinary tract infections.

Of the nearly 4,599 hospitals that were graded:

    • 2% received 5 stars
    • 20% received 4 stars
    • 39% received 3 stars
    • 16% received 2 stars
    • 3% received 1 star
    • 20% received no ranking due to insufficient data

“We were very happy to see our 4-star rating,” stated Tony Snyder, CEO of Pomerene Hospital. “When we looked at all of the hospitals within a 50 mile radius of us, the highest rating was a 4-star, and only 3 hospitals carried that score. We are pleased to be one of the three. Of course, we will continue to strive for a 5-star rating and work on areas of improvement but we are very pleased with our rating which shows that we provide excellent care to our patients.

    05-Apr-2016

Pomerene Hospital is pleased to announce that Interventional Radiology Services will be coming to the hospital one day a week starting May 2016.

Pomerene has partnered with Radiology Associates of Canton to provide these services. The interventional radiology team consists of Syed Zaidi, MD, Norman Crocker, MD and Michael Soehnlen, MD, all members of Radiology Associates of Canton.

Interventional Radiology is a subspecialty of radiology in which minimally invasive procedures are performed using imaging guidance. Some of these procedures are done for purely diagnostic purposes, while others are done for treatment purposes. Although the range of procedures performed by interventional radiologists is broad, the unifying concept behind these therapies is the use of the most modern, least invasive technique available in order to minimize risk to the patient and improve health outcomes.

“Radiology Associates of Canton is proud to provide interventional radiology services at Pomerene Hospital,” stated Dr. Syed Zaidi, President of Radiology Associates of Canton. “Our new arrangement enables us to provide services previously unavailable in Holmes County. Together, we are offering advanced care closer to home.”

CEO Tony Snyder shared in Zaidi’s enthusiasm, echoing his comments.

“Up until this year, our community had to leave the area for interventional radiology procedures. Now, they no longer have to. Offering these less-invasive procedures is just another way we can improve the patient experience and improve health outcomes of those in our community.”

Many new procedures will be performed including joint procedures, biopsy procedures, drainage procedures, intrathecal procedures, IVC filter placements, and PICC lines, among others.

Pomerene Hospital Named One of the Nation's 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics

    07-Mar-2016

On February 28, 2016, Pomerene  Hospital was named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® by Truven Health AnalyticsTM, a leading provider of data-driven analytics and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare.

“The 2016 100 Top Hospitals award winners represent the highest national standards in hospital care and management. They set the benchmarks for peers around the country to follow,” said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president at Truven Health Analytics. “Hospitals in three out of the five report groups actually reduced overall expense year over year, while improving patient outcomes – exactly the results that the entire industry hopes to attain.”

The study shows that if all hospitals in the U.S. performed at the level of this year's winners:

    • More than 104,000 additional lives could be saved.
    • Nearly 48,400 additional patients could be complication free.
    • $2 billion in inpatient costs could be saved.
    • The average patient stay would decrease by half a day.

The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals® study identifies hospitals and leadership teams that provide the highest level of value to their communities, based on a national balanced scorecard measuring overall organizational performance across 11 key analytic measures including patient care, operational efficiency, and financial stability. The study has been conducted annually since 1993. This is first time Pomerene has been recognized with this honor.

“What makes this award truly meaningful to not only us, but to our community, is that hospitals do not apply or pay to be included in the study,” stated Tony Snyder, CEO of Pomerene Hospital. “The study uses independent public data that includes nearly 3,000 hospitals across the country. Of those 3,000 hospitals, we finished in the Top 100. We have always been confident in the high quality care we provide, but to see it recognized through this study confirms to our employees, physicians and volunteers that their hard work and dedication has truly made a positive impact in the lives of patients who have, and will enter our doors.”

To conduct the 100 Top Hospitals study, Truven Health researchers evaluated close to 3,000 short-term, acute-care, non-federal hospitals. 100 Top Hospitals researchers use risk-adjusted methodologies to analyze public information — Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MEDPAR) data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the CMS Hospital Compare reports. Hospitals do not apply, and winners do not pay to market this honor.

More information on this study and other 100 Top Hospitals research is available at 100tophospitals.com.

Pomerene Hospital Announces American Nurses Credentialing Center Pathway to Excellence® Designation

    01-Jul-2015

(Millersburg, OH)- Pomerene Hospital is pleased to announce it has achieved Pathway to Excellence® designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

The Pathway to Excellence designation identifies the elements of work environments where employees can flourish. The designation substantiates the professional satisfaction of employees at Pomerene and identifies it as one of the best places to work.

“Healthy work environments make a difference,” stated Nicole Kolacz, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Services at Pomerene Hospital. “Many studies show a correlation between a positive work environment and patient safety, patient satisfaction and quality. This is an amazing achievement for our organization. Our employees feel supported and valued, and in turn, our community receives the highest quality of care from these dedicated and compassionate individuals.”

Pomerene is only 1 of 6 hospitals in Ohio and 1 of 132 worldwide to receive this designation.

“I am so proud of the hard work and commitment of our staff in achieving this designation. Pomerene incorporates pathway standards into our practice and work environment each and every day,” stated Kolacz.

The Pathway to Excellence designation is granted based on the confirmed presence of characteristics known as “The Pathway to Excellence Criteria.”For an organization to earn the Pathway to Excellence distinction, it must successfully undergo a thorough review process that documents foundational quality initiatives in creating a positive work environment — as defined by nurses and supported by research. These initiatives must be present in the facility’s practices, policies, and culture. Nurses in the organization verify the presence of the criteria in the organization through participation in a completely confidential online survey.

As a Pathway to Excellence® designated organization, Pomerene is committed to employees, to what employees identify as important to their practice, and to valuing employees’ contributions in the workplace. This designation confirms to the public that employees working at Pomerene know their efforts are supported. The honor encourages other employees to join their colleagues in this desirable and nurturing environment.

The Pathway to Excellence designation is perfectly suited to small and medium-sized healthcare organizations, but is attainable by all healthcare facilities around the world.

Pomerene Hospital Recognized for Outstanding Record in Patient Safety – Awarded an “A” in Spring 2015 Hospital Safety Score

    07-May-2015

(Millersburg, OH) – Pomerene Hospital was honored with an “A” grade in the Spring 2015 Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from errors, injuries and infections. The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is administered byThe Leapfrog Group (Leapfrog), an independent industry watchdog. The first and only hospital safety rating to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety, the Score is free to the public and designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.

“It is a great achievement for us to be honored again with an “A” safety score,” stated Nicole Kolacz, Chief Nursing Officer at Pomerene Hospital. “Patient safety has always been a top priority of ours and I think our scores reflect just how much we focus on the importance of that.”

This is the fourth time Pomerene Hospital has been awarded an “A” grade.

    Of the 2,523 hospitals scored this round, 782 earned an A, 719 earned a B, 859 earned a C, 143 earned a D and 20 earned an F.

“Patient safety needs to be a 24-7 priority for hospitals, as errors and infections are all too common and often deadly,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, which administers the Hospital Safety Score. “We commend the ‘A’ hospitals, including Pomerene for helping us to raise the standards of health care nationwide, and demonstrating that they’ve made the well-being of patients a top priority.”

Developed under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,500 U.S. general hospitals were assigned scores in spring 2015, with about 31-percent receiving an “A” grade. The Hospital Safety Score is fully transparent, with a full analysis of the data and methodology used in determining grades available online.

To see how Pomerene’s score compares locally and nationally, and to access consumer-friendly tips for patients and their loved ones, visit the newly updated Hospital Safety Score website at www.hospitalsafetyscore.org. Consumers can also go to www.hospitalsafetyscore.org for a free download of the Hospital Safety Score mobile app.

Pomerene Emergency Medicine Director, William Reisinger, DO Speaks at Emergency Physicians Symposium

    07-Apr-2015

On Saturday, January 31st, 2015, Pomerene Emergency Department Director, William Reisinger, DO spoke on the topic of telemedicine at the Michigan College of Emergency Physicians Symposium in Boyne Falls, Michigan.

The objective of the symposium is to provide up-to-date information on issues, topics and new techniques that help Emergency Physicians improve their practice. Courses are presented by experts selected for their outstanding teaching ability and experience in their particular field of expertise.

“I was honored to be asked to speak at this event. It meant a lot to me and Pomerene as well. It told us that the selection committee determined us to be experts in the telemedicine field,” stated Dr. Reisinger. “As many may know, Pomerene Hospital (with Akron General) was one of the first hospitals in Northeast Ohio to develop and implement a TeleStroke program.”

In June 2012, Pomerene Hospital collaborated with Akron General Medical Center to provide telemedicine capabilities, specifically telestroke and neurology services.

With the telestroke and neurology program, physicians from Akron General are immediately able to examine patients at Pomerene, via telecommunications, to help diagnose the patient's emergent conditions such as acute stroke and recommend a plan of care.

Telemedicine is the use of medical information exchanged via electronic communications for the health and education of the patient or healthcare provider and for the purpose of improving patient care. It includes consultative, diagnostic, and treatment services, and provides cutting edge resources for patients. In many cases, it allows the patient to stay home and recoup from their illness, rather than be transferred to a larger hospital.

Pomerene Hospital is a 55-bed facility serving the residents of Holmes and surrounding counties. Pomerene Hospital is located at 981 Wooster Road in Millersburg.

Board Certification of nurses plays an increasingly important role in the assurance of high standards of care for patients and their loved ones. Nursing, like health care in general has become increasingly complex. While a registered nurse (RN) license provides entry to general nursing practice, the knowledge-intensive requirements of modern nursing require extensive education, as well as a strong personal commitment to excellence by the nurse.

Pomerene encourages national board certification for all its nurses. Patients are encouraged to inquire whether there are certified nurses on staff when they visit a hospital or their primary care provider. There are many nursing certification specialties such as medical-surgical, pediatric, pain management, cardiac vascular, oncology, hospice, case management, emergency nursing, critical care and many others. Many nursing certification bodies exist to serve the full range of specialized nursing care offered in the contemporary health care system; national nurse-certifying bodies should be accredited by either the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification (ABSNC) or the National Organization for Competence Assurance (NOCA), or both.

Please join Pomerene and the nation’s national nursing certification organizations in honoring those hardworking, dedicated nurses for their professionalism, and a job well done!

Pomerene Hospital Cardiovascular Department Receives Accreditation by the IAC

    26-Feb-2015

Pomerene Hospital’s Cardiovascular department has been granted a three-year term of accreditation in the areas of cardiac and vascular testing by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).

Accreditation by the IAC means that Pomerene’s Cardiovascular department has undergone a voluntary and thorough review of its operational and technical components by a panel of experts. The IAC grants accreditation only to those facilities that are found to be providing quality patient care, in compliance with national standards through a comprehensive application process including detailed case study review.

IAC accreditation is a “seal of approval” that patients can rely on as an indication that the facility has been carefully critiqued on all aspects of its operations considered relevant by medical experts in the fields of cardiac and vascular testing.

Alex Nicolozakes, MD is Pomerene’s in-house Cardiologist. “This accreditation really speaks volumes. We have an excellent cardiovascular staff who make it their top priority to provide high-quality care in each and every encounter,” stated Nicolozakes. “I’m so proud of everyone involved here at Pomerene in achieving this accreditation.”

Early detection of life threatening heart and vascular disorders and other diseases is possible through the use of cardiovascular procedures performed within hospitals, outpatient centers and physicians’ offices. While these tests are helpful, there are many facets that contribute to an accurate diagnosis based on testing. The skill of the sonographer performing the examination, the type of equipment used, the background and knowledge of the interpreting physician and quality assurance measures are each critical to quality patient testing.

For more information on Pomerene Hospital’s Cardiovascular services, please call 330-674-1584, ext. 2741 or visit www.pomerenehospital.org/cardiovascular-tests.

Pomerene Hospital Receives its Second “A” in Patient Safety by Hospital Safety Score

    10-Dec-2014

Pomerene Hospital was honored with an “A” in the fall 2014 Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from errors, injuries and infections. The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group (Leapfrog), an independent industry watchdog. The first and only hospital safety rating to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety, the Score is free to the public and designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.

“Patient safety and quality care continue to be our top priorities at Pomerene,” stated Tony Snyder, CEO of Pomerene Hospital.  “This is the second time Pomerene has received an “A” score in patient safety from The Leapfrog Group. We know how important patient safety is to all of our staff and physicians, and we will continue to work hard to meet the expectations of our patients.”

“Earning an ‘A’ on the Hospital Safety Score demonstrates that this hospital has exhibited excellence in our national database of patient safety measures,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I’d like to congratulate Pomerene Hospital for their achievements and encourage them to continue to put a priority on the safety of their patients.”

Calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s eight-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score of “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,500 U.S. general hospitals were assigned score in fall 2014, with about 31% receiving an “A” grade. The Hospital Safety Score is fully transparent, with a full analysis of the data and methodology used in determining graded available online.

To see Pomerene’s scores as they compare nationally and locally, visit the Hospital Safety Score website at www.hospitalsafetyscore.org, which provides information on how the public can protect themselves and loved ones during a hospital stay. Local hospitals’ scores are also available on the free mobile app, available at www.hospitalsafetyscore.org.

Pomerene Hospital Earns ‘Top Performer on Key Quality Measures®’ Recognition from The Joint Commission

    10-Dec-2014

Pomerene Hospital announced it has been recognized as a 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures ® by the Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States. Pomerene Hospital was recognized as part of The Joint Commission’s 2014 annual report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety,” for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for Pneumonia Care and Surgical Care. Pomerene is one of 1,224 hospitals in the United States and only one of 42 in the state of Ohio to achieve the 2013 Top Performer distinction.

The Top Performer Program recognized hospitals for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children’s asthma, stroke, venous thromboembolism and perinatal care, as well as for inpatient psychiatric services and immunizations.

This is the second year Pomerene Hospital has been recognized as a Top Performer. Pomerene was recognized in 2011 and 2012 as well for its performance on accountability measure data for surgical care and pneumonia care. Pomerene Hospital is one of only 314 hospitals to achieve the Top Performer distinction for the past three consecutive years.

To be a 2013 Top Performer, hospitals had to meet three performance criteria based on 2013 accountability measure data, including:

    • Achieving cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures.

    • Achieving performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominator cases; and

    • Having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95 percent or above.

“Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of Pomerene Hospital for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions,” said Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president and CEO, The Joint Commission.

“We understand what matters most to patients at Pomerene Hospital is the quality and safety of the care they receive. That is why we have made it a top priority to improve positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes,” said Tony Snyder, Pomerene Hospital CEO. Pomerene is proud to be named a Top Performer as it recognizes the knowledge, teamwork and dedication of our entire hospital staff.”

    Pomerene Hospital Statement on Ebola

    16-Oct-2014

On Thursday, October 15, 2014, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notified the Ohio Department of Health that a second healthcare worker in Dallas had tested positive for the Ebola virus.  This healthcare worker visited family in Akron, Ohio from October 8-13.

Pomerene Hospital is working together with the Ohio Department of Health, the Holmes County Health Department, and other local agencies to take appropriate safety measures in the event an individual with symptoms of Ebola is identified in our community.

We are educating our employees on the Ebola virus and proper safety procedures related to the use of protective equipment.  Appropriate staff members have been effectively trained on how to handle an Ebola case should one present itself at our hospital. We have obtained the supplies necessary to handle an Ebola case.

In addition to staff readiness, we have posted signs at hospital entry points to make staff, patients and visitors aware of the symptoms of Ebola, and patients are being screened when coming to the Emergency Department or admitted to the hospital.

Pomerene will continue to watch this issue closely and take any necessary steps to keep our staff and community safe. Thank you.

Pomerene Hospital Introduces State-of-the-Art CT Scanner Providing Highest Image Quality with Lowest Possible Radiation Dose

    16-Oct-2014

(Millersburg, OH)- Pomerene Hospital has introduced a new, state-of-the-art Toshiba Aquilion Prime 80-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner, replacing the existing Toshiba 16-slice scanner with significant enhancements in the quality of imaging and dose reduction for patients in the community.

“Coupled with Pomerene’s highly experienced and credentialed CT technologists, the Aquilion Prime ensures delivery of the best possible image quality with the lowest possible radiation exposure,” said Teresa Balder, Director of Outpatient Services at Pomerene Hospital.

The Aquilion Prime CT scanner offers higher resolution images, a larger examination area, faster scan and reconstruction speeds, while providing reduced radiation dosage. CT is a painless procedure which generates a three-dimensional image of the inside of the anatomy.

“We are pleased to continue to provide high-quality clinical performance to meet the evolving needs of our clinicians and patients,” said Claudia Rozuk, MD, Medical Director of Imaging Services at Pomerene Hospital.

Pomerene Hospital is located in Millersburg, Ohio and provides services to a multi county area. To learn more about Pomerene Hospital, visit www.pomerenehospital.org.

    Pomerene Hospital Launches New Website

    15-Oct-2014

(Millersburg, OH)- Pomerene Hospital has recently launched a new, more user-friendly and interactive website.

The new site, www.pomerene.org, will feature an entirely new color scheme and layout, focusing primarily on features and benefits that will help patients, their family members and the community. Some of these features include a listing of programs and services, find a physician, and visitor and patient information.

New features will include an events calendar, video and blog pages, as well as a new and improved Careers page. Pomerene will be launching additional user-friendly features such as an online bill pay feature, set to go live by the end of this year, as well as a patient portal which will offer access to a patient’s personal medical information. In addition, users can now subscribe to Pomerene’s quarterly e-newsletter to receive emails about upcoming events, new physicians and services, and other important news items.

A home page slider which highlights important services and messages is a new feature added to the site.

With the increase in popularity of both electronic and social media over the past few years, Pomerene saw the need for a new and improved website that would better serve the community by becoming more user-friendly and content rich.

“We knew we wanted an entirely different layout for the site, one that enabled the community to search for services and physicians easier than our previous site offered,” stated Pomerene’s Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator Rebecca Ragon. “We are very pleased with the new site and we think the community will be as well.”

Pomerene's Diabetes Program Sees Continues Success in Its Third Year

    09-Oct-2014

(Millersburg, OH)- Now in its third year, Pomerene Hospital’s Comprehensive Diabetes Management Program continues to grow.

Pomerene Hospital’s Comprehensive Diabetes Management program, which is accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators, allows residents in and around Holmes County increased access to critical diabetes education services.
Diabetes education is a collaborative process through which people with or at risk for diabetes gain the knowledge and skills needed to modify behavior and successfully self-manage the disease and its related conditions.
Pomerene’s program works in collaboration with the individual and their healthcare provider to optimize their skills and knowledge for better management of diabetes. The program consists of a Registered Nurse and Dietitian and offers a variety of services including in-patient education, out-patient education, individual training or training in group settings. To take part in the program, a physician referral is required.

“Our goal at Pomerene Hospital is to empower our diabetic clients with the self-management skills necessary to improve their health and well being.  We are here to guide, educate, and support our community toward better health,” said Kathy Snyder, RN, and Diabetic Education Coordinator at Pomerene Hospital.

In the last year, Pomerene has had 33 patients complete the program.

Most recently, Pomerene Hospital submitted an Annual Status report, as required, per the Compliance Enforcement Policy of AADE, and was found to remain in compliance with the national standards for AADE DSME/T.

“It is very exciting to be a part of people’s success in managing their diabetes,” reports Snyder.

According to the 2014 National Diabetes Statistics Report, 29.1 million people in the United States have diabetes. Twenty-one million of those are diagnosed and 8.1 million are undiagnosed.

If you or a family member are struggling with your current diabetes treatment plan, Pomerene urges you to discuss with your provider the option of attending diabetes education self management sessions.

Pomerene Hospital To Manage Kinetics Fitness For Life

    25-Jul-2014

(Millersburg, OH) – Effective August 1, 2014, Pomerene Hospital will become the new manager of Kinetics, Fitness for Life (Kinetics). Pomerene and all of those involved believe this is a great opportunity to continue to focus on improving the health and wellness of the Holmes County population.

Since the passage of the Affordable Care Act in March 2010, the nation’s healthcare services have begun to shift away from “sick care” to wellness and preventative care.  Hospitals and health systems around the country have joined the wellness bandwagon and added health and wellness programs for their employees as well as the community in general.

“We feel this is a natural progression for us,” states Pomerene Hospital CEO Tony Snyder. “As healthcare is moving beyond the four walls of the hospital, we see many opportunities in fitness and wellness services.”

Expanding into this area allows Pomerene Hospital to connect with a number of strategic goals.  First, it’s consistent with our mission of “caring for our community’s health.” It also fits into chronic disease management and community health and wellness, more popularly referred to as population health.  A Pomerene and Kinetics partnership promotes making appropriate adjustments to focus on improving the health and wellness of Holmes County.

Although Pomerene Hospital will serve as the new manager of Kinetics, Dr. Staush Cass, owner of Kinetics, will remain involved to allow for a smoother, more successful conversion.

Cass feels this is an exciting opportunity for Kinetics, Pomerene, and the Holmes County community. “I’m really looking forward to this transition and I believe all our current members as well as the whole community will benefit greatly.”

There are no immediate plans to change staffing, or pricing of Kinetics memberships. Throughout the transition, Pomerene will evaluate the current operational processes, and look for ways to improve and potentially expand services to better serve the overall health wellness needs of the community.

Kinetics, located at 1237 Glen Drive in Millersburg, opened its doors in 2005. It offers state-of-the-art fitness equipment and wellness programs to nearly 500 current members.  Hours of operation are Monday -Thursday 5am-9pm, Friday- 5am-8pm, Saturday- 6am-8pm, and Sunday- 1pm-5pm.
