Pomerene Kinetics—The Medical Fitness Difference


Pomerene Kinetics Fitness for Life is a medical fitness center with medically supervised health and wellness programs that focus on prevention and treatment of lifestyle related disease, illness, and injury, through participation in medically supervised physical activity, nutrition and health education. As a member you get full access to our state of the art Cybex equipment and fitness classes. Our trained staff can get you started on strength and cardio programs and give you support as you go. The medical fitness model has three important components: medical supervision, qualified staff, and clinical integration.

Diet is the cornerstone of health. Let our Registered Dietitian Nutritionist assist you in a balanced eating pattern. At Pomerene, a variety of sessions are offered by our Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, to provide guidance in planning therapeutic meals which include:

Nutrition Education Options


Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)

MNT is provided by registered dietitians that involves:

  • an intensive, focused, and comprehensive nutrition therapy service
  • in-depth individualized nutrition assessment
  • Establishes goals, a care plan, and interventions based on specific disease states
  • Plans for follow-up over multiple visits to assist with behavioral and lifestyle changes relative to each individual’s nutrition problems and medical condition or disease(s).66

Typically 1-2 hours in length that includes a total assessment, evaluation, and personalized meal instruction and plans. Medical nutrition therapy is covered by some insurances. It does require an order from your physician. Referral from your Physician is not necessary for "self-pay". Package prices are available.

 

Nutrition Counseling - Kinetics

Brief nutrition education that targets immediate changes for long-term success. This is provided by Registered Dietitian Nutritionist at Kinetics for 30-minutes in length. Topics covered: healthy eating, weight loss, weight gain, muscle development, or whatever your personalized goals are! Offered to Kinetics members and non-members. Fit4You - Healthy Lifestyle Program - Kinetics

 A 10-week healthy lifestyle program that combines nutrition, physical activity, and behavioral changes all-in-one. A team approach with the Registered Dietitian and Exercise Specialist where you will receive one-on-one education and plans for your specific goals. Measurements, pre-and post-pictures, Kinetics gym membership & offerings, individualized nutrition and exercise counseling are all included. Please call for more details: 330-674-4488.

Through providing expertise in individualized training and ongoing follow up care from a Registered Nurse and a Registered Dietician, the Pomerene Diabetes Education team works with you to give you the skills and knowledge needed to successfully manage your diabetes. We offer a team approach that also involves your physician, your family and most importantly- you. Working together, this team provides support and training to help you gain confidence and skill in your diabetes management. Whether it is a new diagnosis, a bump in your current diabetes care plan or a new medication that you are unsure of, the Diabetes Education team is ready to help.

Located on the first floor at Pomerene Hospital, one-on-one sessions are available at various times during the week to provide individualized instruction to best meet your needs.

 The Pomerene diabetes education program is accredited through the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists and entails services including:

  • Education on the Diabetes Disease Process
  • Nutrition and Meal Planning
  • Physical Activity Guidance
  • Glucometer Training
  • Hands on Medication and Insulin Injection Training
  • Prevention and Management of Complications Related to Diabetes (Acute and Chronic)
  • Assistance in Obtaining your Diabetes Medical Equipment and Supplies
  • Goal Setting and Problem Solving
  • Psycho-social Adjustment
  • Type 1, Type 2 and Preconception Care/Gestational Diabetes Education and Support Available

Diabetes is largely a self-managed, lifelong disease and education is essential in equipping individuals with the best knowledge and tools to care for their diabetes. Working closely with your healthcare team and diabetes educator to manage your diabetes can lessen your risks of complications from diabetes. Remember, as your life changes, your plan may need to change, too. Anytime your plan isn’t working, it may be time for a change in plan. Although there is no cure for diabetes, the Diabetes Education Self-Management Program at Pomerene Hospital is committed to helping those with diabetes in our community to lead happy and healthy lives.

Did You Know?

Diabetes is ranked as the 7th leading cause of death in the United States, it is the number one cause of lower limb amputations, kidney failure and adult onset blindness. 34.2 million Americans have diabetes and 1 in 5 of them don’t know they have it.

Risk Factors for Type 2 Diabetes:
  • Heredity
  • Obesity
  • Physical Inactivity
  • Over the Age of 40
  • History of High Blood Pressure
  • Have Had a Baby Over 9 Pounds
  • Have Had Gestational Diabetes
Symptoms of Diabetes Are:
  • Excessive Thirst and Hunger
  • Frequent Urination

  • Fatigue/ Lack of Energy
  • Headaches
  • Mood Changes
  • Weight Loss
  • Sores That Don't Heal

If you have risk factors for diabetes and/or have experienced any of the warning signs, please talk with your healthcare provider. If you feel this program is right for you ask for a referral from your healthcare provider.

Insurance


Diabetes self-management training is a benefit covered by Medicare and most health plans. Your individual insurance policy defines the extent of your coverage. Treat yourself, relax, and unwind with our licensed Medical Massage Therapist specializing in Swedish relaxation, Deep tissue massage, Trigger point therapy, Prenatal massage, Hot stone therapy, Cold stone migraine therapy, Reflexology—and more!

SWEDISH RELAXATION MASSAGE

Light to medium pressure using long, flowing strokes on superficial muscle tissues. Good for relaxing the mind and body and helps with depression/ anxiety, PTSD.

  • BENEFITS INCLUDE: Improved circulation, improved skin, promotes healthy sleep, lowers blood pressure, etc.


DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

Medium to firm pressure, focusing on deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (protective layer surrounding muscles, tendons and joints). Pressure is focused with short strokes. Good for chronic pain and injuries, sciatica, fibromyalgia, frozen shoulder, etc.

  • BENEFITS INCLUDE: Reduction of inflammation, increased blood flow, promotes healing.


HOT STONE MASSAGE

Uses smooth, round stones heated to 110-135 degrees in place of hands to relax tight muscles, relieve pain, and promote emotional wellbeing. Focuses on soft tissues. Muscle adhesions seem to “melt” with this modality.

  • BENEFITS INCLUDE: Reduction of pain, stress/anxiety, promotes sleep, may relieve autoimmune disease symptoms, boosts immunity, may help decrease cancer symptoms.


COLD STONE MIGRANE THERAPY

Gentle pressure on specific areas of the face and head. The combined use of cold stones (3 degrees), aromatherapy and massage can relieve headaches before they turn into full blown migraines by relaxing tension and pressure. Good for occasional and chronic sufferers. Clients should try to schedule as soon as they feel a headache that began from their migraine triggers. If they don’t know their triggers, we can help figure them out.

  • BENEFITS INCLUDE: Headache/migraine relief, tension and stress, may reduce need for medication 


THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE

Combines different pressures as well as modalities and is tailored to the individual depending on their needs. The therapist will assess the client’s needs and apply the type of massage she feels is best suited. Can include any of the above therapies as well as stretching, assisted Range of Motion, myofascial release (relaxation of constricted muscles) and/or trigger point therapy (a localized knot or spasm in a muscle that causes referred pain in other areas of the body).
