Our Services


At Pomerene Hospital, we perform about 1,400 surgical cases each year to members of Holmes County and those beyond. Several procedures performed at Pomerene can now be done on an outpatient basis, meaning that you will go home a few hours after surgery and often times, a quicker recovery period.  If you require hospitalization after your procedure, you will be taken to our medical/surgical unit, located on the third floor where our entire staff will take great care of your personalized needs until discharge.

    Surgical FAQs

    • How do I prepare for my procedure?

      Prior to your procedure, speak with your provider for a full understanding of your specific procedure.  Do not hesitate to ask questions. The provider office will schedule the date of your procedure.  Surgery Scheduling will call you with your arrival and start times. These calls happen two days before your scheduled procedure, typically in the early afternoon. 


      Please have someone available to drive you home.  Follow any special instructions given to you from your provider.  You are to have nothing to eat or drink after midnight, the night before your procedure. You may take your blood pressure medicine, seizure medications, or thyroid medications with a sip of water.  Inhalers can be used in the morning prior to your procedure. 


      Please bring a list of your medications and allergies. Please contact Ambulatory Care if you have any cold-like symptoms, cough, fever, or loss of taste/smell.  If you have any of these symptoms or questions please call (330) 674-1584 extension 4348 or contact your provider.

    • Where does my visitor wait during my procedure?

      You will assigned to the same bedspace before and after your procedure. Your visitor will be permitted to wait with you prior to your procedure.  When you go to your procedure, your visitor will wait for you in your bedspace.  When you return after surgery, your visitor will at your bedside

    • What can I expect after my procedure?

      Once your procedure is complete you will either go to the recovery room for a short period, or directly back to your bedspace for a recovery period.


      Following the recovery room you will return to your same bedspace with your family/visitor. The nurses will then check your blood pressure, pulse, breathing, and temperature from time to time.  A nurse will also review discharge instructions, and answer any questions you or your family may have.


       You will be given a contact number for your physician if you have any questions or concerns.  Your driver will then be instructed to pull the car up, and you will assisted out to the car in a wheelchair.
