On December, 19th Pomerene Hospital and Lifecare hosted an open house for their new hospice suite. This remodeled area will improve the ability of families to visit and spend time together while providing a peaceful environment for patients. Staff from both Lifecare and Pomerene, the Holmes County Chamber of Commerce, community members, and members of the Pomerene Board of Trustees attended the ceremony. “I do think this is a partnership that will go on a long time” says Kurt Holmes, Executive Director of Ohio’s Hospice Lifecare.
Pomerene Hospital and Lifecare Hospice have been longstanding partners in providing end-of-life care for the greater Holmes County area. This partnership provides the ability to provide short-term symptom relief and peace of mind for patients, families, and loved ones while remaining close to home.
The suite features a patient room, waiting area, and a family area with a large dining table. The furniture, decor, and finishings establish a home-like
feeling. “It is important to give patients and their loved ones an area to gather, cry, laugh, and spend time together in a comfortable environment”
says Tracy Smith, Clinical & Operational Excellence at Pomerene Hospital.
Pomerene Hospital CEO, Jason Justus, stated, “We are pleased to be able to work together to meet this need in the community”.
Pomerene would like to extend a thank-you to Homestead Furniture and Friendtique for their gracious contributions to this project. For information on Hospice care, questions can be directed to Ohio’s Hospice Lifecare at 1-800-884-6547.
