A Mekel's Scan can demonstrate a diverticulum in the bowel that may contain gastric mucosa.
What to Expect
- The patient is given an injection of a small amount of radioactive tracer through a vein in the hand or arm.
- Pictures are taken right away following the injection.
- This test can take up to 1 hour.
- The patient should have nothing to eat or drink for 4 hours before the test and should have no barium study done in the past 5 days.
