Pomerene Hospital Receives Statewide Hospital Safety Award  

MILLERSBURG, OH - Pomerene Hospital is being recognized for receiving a group award in Ohio Hospital Association's 2011 Statewide Hospital Safety campaign. This award puts Pomerene Hospital in good company as having one of the best workplace safety records among hospitals and health systems in 2010.

In order to better hospital safety, Pomerene Hospital utilized two initial strategies which included an updated incident reporting process and also developing a safety circle consisting of front line staff from all areas. Several employees took on the role of Safety Champions, and were trained in various methods of surveying and inspecting their areas for safe practices on a regular basis to decrease or eliminate potential hazards before they become problematic. This group then submits safety assessments as well as their findings to the Safety Officer on a monthly basis.

"I want to thank our staff and our managers for leading this effort," stated Nicole Kolacz, Chief Nursing Officer of Pomerene Hospital. "We have strongly focused on increasing awareness, providing education, and most importantly, getting front line staff involved in our safety program- all of which contributed to us receiving this award."

The criteria for the award was based upon a summary of work-related injuries and illnesses which included annual average employment, total number of hours worked, total number of injury cases and total number of lost days of work.

Pomerene Hospital is pleased to announce they had no injury cases resulting in lost time from work in 2010.
