Pomerene Restricting Visitors Under the Age of 17
Millersburg, OH - Pomerene Hospital is currently restricting visitors under the age of 17 from entering the hospital. The hospital is also limiting visitation. Until further notice, the hospital will be enforcing a rule of no more than 2 visitors per patient.
"Due to the recent increase in H1N1 activity we are limiting visitors to over the age of 17", said Nicole Gemma, Vice President of Patient Services. "We care a great deal about the people in our community, and are taking these steps as a precautionary measure with their safety in mind."
Children and young adults are considered "high-risk" when it comes to the H1N1 virus, which is why Pomerene is taking steps toward restricting visitors under the age of 17, preventing the possibility of one of them contacting something while at the hospital.
Pomerene is isolating patients with flu-like symptoms to a separate waiting room, to ensure that they do not pass the disease on to other patients/visitors in the hospital.
In addition to those restrictions, Pomerene has also posted signs at the entrances, asking those entering the hospital with flu-like symptoms to wash their hands with the sanitizer provided, put on a mask, notify staff of their symptoms, and avoid close contact with others.
"Our staff members have been meeting weekly to discuss new information regarding H1N1" said Gemma. "We have been very proactive in preparing for this flu season, and I believe this will help us to prepare for the months ahead".
