Martin's Creek Mennonite Church Donates to Pomerene Hospital
Millersburg, OH - Vacation bible school at Martin's Creek Mennonite Church located in Millersburg was held June 7th -11th. Two of the bible school directors, Norma Schlabach and Lori Miller, wanted to put together a project for the children that would follow the mission of this year's bible school which was "Fear Not." Because they wanted to center the project around children, they thought of the hospital, a place most kids don't particularly enjoy going.
"The idea of going to a hospital is scary for a kid. We wanted to be able to give something to the hospital that would ease the worry and fear children have of being at the hospital," said Lori Miller.
And that's just what they did. The project for the children at the vacation bible school was to go out and purchase a stuffed animal and bring it back with them. The children were also allowed to bring in money instead of a stuffed animal.
The church brought in approximately $400 in cash and several stuffed animals. Part of the money went toward buying more stuffed animals for the children, and in the end, the church was able to donate over 50 stuffed animals to Pomerene.
"We are very appreciative to Martin's Creek for donating all of these stuffed animals to the hospital," said Rebecca Wojcicki, PR and Marketing Coordinator at Pomerene Hospital. "A hospital can be a scary place for a child. Knowing they can take a stuffed animal home with them makes the experience a bit more pleasant overall."
A variety of stuffed animals were donated to the hospital, including teddy bears, crocodiles, lady bugs and dogs.
Pomerene Hospital plans to give a stuffed animal to every child that is admitted and discharged from the ER.
Pomerene Hospital is a 55-bed facility serving the residents of Holmes and surrounding counties. Pomerene Hospital is located at 981 Wooster Road in Millersburg.
